he was being sarcastic. anyone can go to advanced auto and get a free scan. or walk into a dealership and ask, they will usually too.

well actually i was kinda being serious, if he can get a basic OBD read for normal codes, no big deal, but if he can get a full parameter scan from one of those scanners that cost a couple grand, then yes he is lucky, because all the dealerships i go to charge 100$ for this "diagnostic" scan, or they see my car has an intake and they think i race it and drive to redline 24 hours a day and say they wont touch it

aha, Thanks ;p, but yeah they typically charge for a scan at the dealership too I think, but they do it for free if they know you are having problems and are ready to pay or have warranty. I have neither but everytime that damn SES light comes on they clear it, only happens when I fill up the car. it's some emissions code or something.

Any difference between the pump-side fitting between the variable effort and non-VE pumps? I have a VE pump that is on its last leg (no assist at idle, making parking a PITA)... since I don't want to spend $300 on a new VE pump (and I don't have any of the other stuff to make it work anyway)...

You just swap the VE stuff over when you change the pump.

That would work except the only VE part I do have is the pump
<-- doesn't have an Alero, just has the heart out of one

In that case, the VE pump outlet is 90° to where the standard pump is.

I changed out the idler pulley and that stopped some weird noises from under the hood, but I occasionally have weird steering noises and a squeakey rubber noise at the steering wheel. It has done it for a year though so I am not in a rush to swap it out yet.
