Turning Signals went out.
Drove out to do some Xmas shopping. Worked the whole way out (both sides) then it sat in the parking lot for like 2hrs. when we were leaving, they didn't work for like 20 minutes, then just started working again.
wtf is going on?
why would they not work, then just start working w/o doing anything...

This happened to me once. When I had my headlights on, the turn signals would not work, but if the headlights were off, they worked. Turns out I had a bad ground on the relay.

only the turning signals weren't working though? doesn't the hazard switch usually present with other issues too? (or should i expect those to follow?)
its really wierd to hit your turning signal up or down, and the lights in the dash to nothing, no external lights either... really catches your attention. (espicially on a 4 lane highway at night)
does anyone know what goes wrong with the switch to cause this?

yeah, mine is doing it as well. it will work fine one minute, then will flash really fast like it does when a bulb is out, or not work at all...
i think it is due to one of the metal pieces in the switch losing its connection over a period of time, but i dunno. its annoying as hell, but yet another cheap unnecessary failure of a part that should absolutely not fail. thats just GM though...

it's a poorly soldered connection.

Have you checked your blinker fluid lately?
seriously though, replacing the hazard switch is really easy. Took me maybe 30 minutes.

I had this hazard switch issue myself, and replaced the hazard switch... Fixed the problem for awhile, but now it starts to resurface on a rare occasion.... The switch internals are just really crappy thats all, and the hazard switch overrides the turn signals. Unless you want to somehow bypass the hazard switch, which I'm sure can be done.

really? nobody has had a tough time replacing the switch? took me damn near an hour to do it. i thought it was a pain to get to the 3 screws holding it in. maybe im just retarded. it did solve my problem tho, and now the turn signal "click" is much quieter to my suprise.

Mine is starting to make random clicking noises all the time. It sounds like you have your turn signals or hazard switch on, even if you don't Would this fall under the recall?

when i went to see if i could get mine done for free they told me i would have to pay to have it done because they only did it for certain years and between a certain amount of miles.

i replaced mine pretty easy. only problem i had was i broke the clips holding the center air vent in. once i got that out it was easy to get at the 3 screws. and my "click" seems to be alot louder now with the new one which i thought was pretty odd.

Hazard/turn signal switch replacement
The problem and instructions for replacement can be found here:
http://www.gaownersclub.com/kbruce/m...ec_16_2004.pdf
It is actually a pretty simple fix if you have a small socket wrench and a screwdriver.
You can get the parts for under $30 from either of these places:
www.gmpartshouse.com
www.gmpartsdirect.com
The part number for my 1999 was 10359040, but yours may be different depending on the year of your car.
Hope this helps
