what's hanging by the windshield

What is the black thing hanging by the driver's side of the windshield on a 2003 Alero? Is that part of the OnStar system?

Can I just cut it off?

Power for the light on the rearview mirror?

There was never OnStar in an Olds.

OK, I guess that the ON Star in my Aurora is just my senility setting in.

Pretty sure there was no ONstar on Aleros.

maybe not standard, but when Olds was still pumping out cars, I remember seeing the Olds logo on the OnStar commercials

it was coming out from the pillar trim piece- I don't have a picture. Black skinny hard plastic. It was attached to the windshield in the upper left corner at some point but came loose. The car has factory radio (digital), nothing added. The Olds book says the radio antenna is in the rear window and the XM antenna is in the roof.. so what could this be?

Sorry. No OnStar in Aleros.

And whatever.. it's your car, right? Hack whatever you want if you don't like it there.

thanks all. I cut it. I didn't see wires or anything.

If it was an aftermarket antenna it was a real sloppy install - and I guess I must still have half of it tucked in the headliner/pillar somewhere. Always something...

I'm just glad I know it wasn't original equipment.
