ground!

I have one question were do i ground the negative wire in the truck of the alero ? , if possible two spots as i want to be safe and have each amp to a diffrent ground oh make that 3 (one for the cap)


also tip for n.e one else who dosent care about looks or is just hidding their wires i found welding wire (4 gauge) for half the price of this coloured stuff at my local supple shop (princess auto) not only can it with stand high heat but also has a thicker coating so chances of not shorting are way better!

Welcome to the Forums.

My advice to your is to Abuse the search button.

And then Fold down your seats, there are bolts there, pop one out, Add Ground, Replace. Merry Christmas.

For Best Results, Grind any Rust/paint off that area before adding in the ground wire.

And for the love of god make sure you use an actual connector.

If you have none, Go back to PA, and they're down in surplus.

avoid the cap, its pointless.... and ground them all to the same spot. it won't matter. I drilled a hole through the support piece that extends back past the wheelwell. Threw a bolt in there and double nutted it, just to be sure the wire is held on. (didn't want one nut to vibrate off)

hey thanks man, cant belive i didnt see that. had the seats folded down the whole time and every thing

how ever i have one more ? i want to keep it clean that being said can i run all negative wires off the one cap that being two wires to the cap and then one to the negative post if any one could answer that be great

my bad didnt get the other posts till after i posted mine but ya i wish i really hadnt bought the cap although i've herd good i things about them i feel i should have gone with a dry cell for the trunk but hey thats what i get for lissing to friends (never do it again... or get them to help instail because well if you want quailty you gotta do it your self apparently)

I wouldn't run the two to the cap. I would just run all three to one spot in the car to ground it out. You could try running your wires so they all run along side each other and just zip tie them together or something.

if your going to connect the cap... it either goes in the line, on the biggest amp... or if there is one main power line coming in, put it on that.

hey thanks tw0123 i deffently appreciate .nice to kno their is another alero supporter around here will keep it in mind for further notice, how ever every thing is pretty much done just need to hock up speakers(yes 6x9's) that being said thanks for the help every one!

run wires straight down off the amp and hide in the velcrow along the bottom of the seat, i think it looks clean for how easy it is

I don't know if it will help, but I grounded the train horn connections to the suspension bolts in the trunk. Works great.

I sandwiched it between 2 bolts so I didn't have to scrap off any paint on the body

If you are running alot of power, you are going to want to ground directly to the front battery. Since our car is a unibody, you can't get a "perfect" ground by grounding to the chassis, but most of the time it will work.

ok so i went to put my fuse in an it blows as i put it in. how do i go about putting the final power to the system ? i dont kno why i'm having such a proplem with this set up worked fine in my jeep how ever that was over a year ago i checked all my lines no chance of shorting .. do i put the fuse in last an put it to the battery first or fuse the battery ..... the spark from trying to put the fuse in seems to kill the fuse..any thoughts? fml!


p.s my cap is charged i had taken it off and put the fuse in that seemed to work but when i went to put the cap back on it made a spark and once again killed the fuse

polarity on the cap right? uh oh..ok more ?'s how do i figure out what my polarity is sappost to be and if its under/over oh do i adjust this?..is this what is causing the sparks that i belive is causing the proplem? thanks

sparks are caused by a power wire touching a grounded location.

double/triple check your lines/connections

Lets start simple.

Remove the cap from the system for time being.

If you blow a fuse right away:

1) You have something hooked up wrong

2) Your power wire may have a break/short in it somewhere you cant see

3) Your amp is blown in a bad way.
