Ideal Tire/Rim Size?
Hey just wondering what do you guys think the ideal Tire/Rim size is for our cars? Right now I'm running 225/45/17 but I'm not liking it. Was thinking about some 205/45/16 or 215/45/16. What about you guys, what's your input?

I personally like smaller rims @ least on an Alero for some reason. From a performance stand point smaller diameter wheels make perfect sence, there light and spin faster, as far as a daily driver goes, the make sence as well, say you hit a gnarly hole, there less likely to bend or break (depending on how bad the hole and how fast you going, lol) i think 215/45/16 would be good imo.

Stock on mine were 215/60/R15. Use the Miata tire size calculator to figure out sizes work to retain the same overall diameter. |

Well, I hit a lot of potholes and because of that I have major dents where the tire meets the rim. Also the car is lowered on Dropzone's and I would rather have more tire to give it the more lowered look.

The size you posted is less tire, meaning you gonna have more chance to bent rims. More narrow, and less sidewall than the original 16 stockers. Your current rim is 17, are you throwing the stockers back?? im confused..
Also more tire like you said, would only make the car sit higher itself from the ground, the gap betwenn the tire and the fender would be the same.

Changing the overall diameter screws with your gear ratios (makes your car quicker or slower) and messes with your shifting and whatever other calculations the PCM does based on vehicle speed, unless you change the pulses per mile in the tune.
Also, the size he runs (225/45/R17) is only 0.7% off (smaller than stock).
guiguilandry's are 0.5% off.
kwhauck's are also only 0.5% and 0.7% off.
Mine (205/50/R17) are 0.3% smaller than stock.

like ion stated you have to keep the original diameter... because of all the electronics and calculations computers on the car does... you can change the width, but not the overall height........
Kwhauck, why staggered, I wanted the widest possible lip on all 4 corners... I have to admit I like chromed lip......

skinnier tire in the rear means less rotating mass for quicker acceleration in a straight line....but for me the 235s in the rear should still provide enough traction for a little auto-x here and there.....
but you have 19s so i'm not sure that really applies to you.....lol |

I'm running 235/40 18s and they would look great with a 2 -2.5 inch drop. I don't think the 1 inch drop of my new springs will smooth out the wheel well gap enough. But I won't have to angle curbs or drive around speedbumps. Also are we talking performance or looks? Track or daily driver?

lol yeah anyway they weight way too much to be performance rims...... that's why I have a set of stock 15's with mickey thompson drag radials 26x8,5x15 on them.. for the 1/4mile this summer... |

i was runnin 235/40/R18 until i had some tire problems, but now i'm back to my stock 225/50/R16.

225/50-16 is the stock GLS tire on a 16x6.5 rim.
I've almost bought 17's many times but I cant bring myself to replace the stockers untill I fit the corvette brake conversion, even thought they fit, I'm not comfortable with the clearance.
Will upgrade to 235/45-17 on 17x7 rim. I like the tire to be wider than the rim. If i have to roll the fenders I will.
