Should I buy it?
I found a 02 Alero w/14k miles! 4 cyl. Pw, Pl, Auto. Like new, drives great, was a Govt. Police vehicle used on a base in Va. No lights or anythinhg were ever put on exterior of vehicle though. They are asking $6,499. I would hope to get it for closer to 5k but what do you guys think?

Buy it but remember that police cars go through hell.. and are usually pretty beat up. This one has a low mileage so the case may be different.

of course, low mileage could mean nothing, it could have spent its life going 15MPH for 10 hours a day, and never being shut off.

Retail book value in my zip is 6700, so it's a fair price. my vote: go for it.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm going to be out town for a few days but as soon as I get back I'm going to see the guy. I may see if he'll hold it for me if I leave him a deposit. I'll let you know what happens and hopefully I'll be putting up some pics of the new ride soon. LatR!

The price is definately too high, given this economy you'd be on crack to pay anywhere near book for anything, everything is selling at a discount. 5k like you said is more realistic, at that price it would be a good buy.

You're saying low mileage doesn't enter into it. Where is there one out there with under 20k miles, selling for less than $6,000 ? Even then you usually have to find one close to where you live.

Thats not what I said at all. All you did is put words in my mouth.
If you actually read what I said, you would have seen what I stated was that due to the bad economy, someone would be on crack to pay anywhere near book value for anything because everything is selling for less than book. Thats what I said.
I've seen aleros with 40-50k original miles all up and down autotrader for 3-4k. I'd sooner pay 4k for an alero with 40k miles, than pay 6.5k for an alero with 15k. To pay 6.5k it had better have some worthwhile mods or be a final 500.
