cruise control

hi im from alaska and im new to the site i own a 99 2.4l i bought it last year in the middle of the winter at almost -50 below and when i bought it the cruise control worked, but one day the orange light got annoying so i clicked it to turn it off and it wouldnt go off so i kept clicking it and then it went off and now it wont go back on, it still works but i have to hold the buttom down which is kinda lame, i checked the fuse and everything i dont know if anyone has had this problem if so let me know or let me know if you know how to fix it thanks
