When mine blew during a road trip, I had a man refer me to this accent Chinese man who rebuilds alternators... he asked me what I had in the car for a stereo system, and then rebuilt mine to 200 Amps... cost me just under $200 installed... It was cheaper than buying a stock one brand new up here...

Powermaster and DB starter have always made quality alternators.
A few other brands to look into are Ohiogenerator and MeanGreen.

A thing to think about before buying an alternator: do you really need it?
Do you usually "bump" your setup at idle? Most alternators will not help you here. In fact, most alternators don't do their amp rating until 1500+ rpm. In this case, you will need more battery backup.

Now if you blare your music mostly while driving down the road, then sure, an alternator can help out.

Very true Fi-alero, But its doesn't hurt to have a Alt going at 110amps at idle is better than stock...

that's why having a good battery, and some storage devise for back up power.
i use THE CAP system, and never had a problem with using it.

or put a overdrive pulley on the stock alt, to give it a higher output at idle. (wouldn't increase total output though)

True lol.

I run ~4k rms with the stock alternator. I worry more about battery reserve than anything. I have a kenetik 1800 up front an a 2400 in the back with 3 runs of 1/0

So how big of sound system, or how much power would you draw to benefit or have recomendaton to upgrade to this altenator. Sorry if that was hard to read I'm sure someone can understand this to answer my question.

i'm running 2600 watts rms on a 225amp alt and a yellowtop. like stated before it all depends on your situation, the only time i run high volume at idle is when im adjusting my system.

Yes the overdrive pulley gives you more voltage. Love it.

I hate having the newer style alternator, I could use a higher output one (my lights dim at any rpm). Hopefully installing the big 3 this week will help out alot though.

thats 80% of the reason i upgraded. i HATED how the engine would idle down to like...13.2V then as soon as i stepped on the gas, it was up to 14.5 (with nothing but headlights on)

Fans/defrost/stereo and i was drawing from the battery at idle. LAME.

This. You will never need over 4 gauge for the big 3 (unless you run dual alts). I used 3/0 but that was for show lol.

^So your saying do the big 3 in 4 gauge on a stock alternator, and the other 2 wires, or just 4 on the alternator and 1/0 everywhere else
