Yeah mine works, don't see why you would need it though, its annoying, especially at night.
They just put in there for you to get the "best fuel economy" as the owner's manual states.

upper left area of gauge cluster lights. you should be able to see the outline of where it should be. first thing i would check is the bulb to make sure it isn't burnt out.
EDIT: actually i'll steal a pic from elsewhere on the site to show where it is

i meant where to start looking for problems. i dont have a clue where to begin
and malibu. does it go off for best fuel mileage, and for best shift point for racing. my 84 jetta did that. it would go off for mileage, then again around the 6000rpm mark

What? Lol. The shift light shows up at a set RPM, editable in HPTuners. You can make it light up on the auto just as well as the manual depending on what the value is set to. It's just that on the autos the light is set at like 6800 RPM or something.

ive never seen it go off on the autos, and ive driven hard a few times and it got that high rpm shift. but still no shift light. that is pretty cool, be nifty to see it on autos when it shifts gears. or is it just me to think that

i dont think there are two different clusters. they are all the same, just autos either don't go off, or go off at the higher rpm.
well if the autos are supposed to go off, but peoples aren't. i'm not the only one who has this problem lol.
where do i start looking to fix this.

Mine always turns on at just about 6500 RPM or thereabout.
It hardly ever turns on at less than 3k. But that's probably just how I drive.

Mine works when im on it. Lights up at high rpms. Might be cause of the GM reflash.
