u could use some plexi or lexan I thought about it but, it would be hard to attach it to the 3rd brake light housing,
I made my own led 3rd brake light though its really not hard i got a piece of lexan and drilled holes for the leds and poped the in the hole wired them up and put it back togather

the mounting brackets and the plug on the impala's are not the same as an alero's. when i installed mine i didn't sand anything on the impala's led circuit board, i just pushed it into my stock 3rd brake light housing.

^^^^^ So did you have to take the impala brake light assembly apart to wire it?

You have to take apart the Impala housing to get the LED strip out, and you have to take apart the Alero housing and take the bulbs out. There's nothing to trim or sand, but you have to glue the LED strip into the Alero housing. I used a hot glue gun and put a couple dabs of glue on the top and bottom of the strip and it holds it in place pretty solid.
There's nothing to wire, you just take the wires from the LED strip and insert them into the main plug that the bulbs were plugged into and tape it up with some electrical tape. Then you just pop the lens back on the Alero housing and put it back on the car.
The end result looks like this:

Yeah i have done this mod before. Atmosphere has that set. but I did have to sand the edge down so that it would fit in the alero housing. As to having it wired in, I just soldered the wires from the led strip into the place where the stock bulbs got power from. It was really easy.
For the clear lense thing, yeah you would have to be able to make a mold of the red lense and make a clear lexan thing to place in place of the red one.
Once i run into some good amounts of money i would like to go out and buy some PCB stuff, and work on making LED's in a circuit for the third breaklight, and learning how to fiberglass, and make lexan lenses.
