The gas mileage thread
i was surfing around the internet and found this adobe file with "tips" on increase your gas mileage. some of it i agree with, some i'm not too sure about.
http://www.superchargerperformance.c...ageBooster.pdf
what do you think.
personally, i get around or better than what the alero is rated for.
things i have done from the list include
NGK spark plugs, K&N intake, Seafoam regularly, Full synthetic oils, High tire PSI, aluminum rims.
now the synthetic oil, i never believed it to really make a fuel mileage difference.
My mileage is
City, 25-27mpg (this is usually hard driving, not driving like an old lady)
Highway, average 35mpg. but have gotten 42 on a few occasions.
what i average in the alero, 30-32mpg mixed with small town driving (lots of stop and go) and highway driving.

31+ MPG highway
20-27 MPG city (depends on how aggressive I drive.. it's very tempting)
Worth noting, my instantaneous MPG is 1-2 @ WOT

no thoughts on the different tips though?
like lowering your car which makes lower air dam, or the stiffer shocks/struts.
in theory it makes sense, but i'm not sure sure about it

ok if you think about it lower your car you have less air going under your car to push your car back, if you think about a 4x4 truck what's the milage there? its like maybe city 8 and highway is like 12-15 look at it that way

drafting.
i can get 60-100+ extra miles per tank that way.

only works behind semi-trailers. modern cars don't draft for crap, and don't move fast enough to get any benefit from it.

I usually get around 37mpg with my stock engine and heavy chrome wheels. Doesn't hurt that I drive across the straightest and flattest section of road in the world haha. On my last trip during the summer i went 615 km before refueling and it still had 3-4 litres left in the tank.

I probably did it wrong myself, but I get roughly 550km to 600 km's on a tank of gas which in miles I really have no idea

there is NO WAY any alero EVER gets 80mpg highway. even 40 is pretty unbelievable.
i think you missed a decimal place in your math somewhere
