I like the idea of the ONE resistor on the hazard switch. I've installed LEDs in only the rear lights, and when I use just the left or the right, I get the fast blinking. When I use the hazard switch the lights blink at normal rate. Also, if I install LEDs on the front, as well as the rear, nothing blinks, and they do their own thing.
Maybe I'll try the resistor on the hazards switch idea, and let ya know how things work out.
