tight steering?

is it normal for aleros to have tight steering? like, tighter than any other car ive driven. its not so bad that i have to use both hands to steer but like i said its the tightest steering ive ever encountered. is it normal?

Absolutely not! My Alero's steering is as smooth as silk...if that makes sense? lol. Its much more smooth than most cars I have driven with power steering. Did you check the power steering fluid? You might also have air in the lines..happened to me once while i was constantly turning too quickly and very hard. Does it make a whining noise when you turn the steering wheel? If the power steering pump is whining then it might need to be changed. Check the fluid first. What I did when I had the same problem was I took my car to an empty parking lot and just turned it left and right excessively and it fixed the problem.

i can turn my wheel with 1 finger. pretty sure i've got that speed sensitive steering (i think, could be wrong)

any way, 1 finger... so not normal

Which wheels do you have, and what pressure do you have in the tires? If you are talking about the effort required to turn the steering wheel, that can make a difference, as well as alignment, suspension wear, etc.....

tires are always inflated to 32 psi. i can turn the wheel with one finger, but it takes a little effort (more than i think it should). power steering fluid is good, and there is no whine when i turn... im thinking it may be the pump going out :/

also my tires are goodyear assurances

with my snow tires it's easy, with my sticky tires there's more resistance.

I noticed that my mom's buick turns a little easier than the Alero. It requires less effort. So, there could be a difference from what you have driven compared to the Alero. But, I don't think I need to put a lot of effort into turning my Alero...

My Alero turns harder than everything else I've driven, but it's normal. If there's no whine, no catches, and the effort required is consistent (but not as hard as if there's no power steering) I'd say you're safe.

update on this. changed a frozen front caliper yesterday and it steers MUCH easier now. woo! (idk how a frozen caliper could affect the steering much but it did)
