Fuel System Cleaner killing fuel economy?
So, I put a bottle of Chevron Techron Synthetic Fuel System Cleaner in a full tank of gas and I noticed I am getting shit for mileage on this tank of gas. I usually get 100-150 miles from full to the 3/4 mark but this time I have a little over 80 miles and I am nearing a half tank.
Is it normal for the stuff to cut down the efficiency of the fuel? I've never noticed this before while using fuel system cleaner, yet this techron stuff was recommended by a GM certified mechanic. maybe because its more condensed, it dilutes the gas more?
I'm just worried because with the way it's going, I think I am only getting less than 20 to the gallon and thats HORRIBLE considering I am broke and barely can afford gas while getting 25-30 per gallon!

find out what your next tank does. sometimes your guage reading vearys a bit. i usualy get around 100 at the 3/4 mark and 150 at the half mark. wait untill you refill and find out what your mph are before you assume the worse.

I normally get better gas mileage when I use real gas. I know it sounds stupid but most the gas at pumps has 10% Ethanol. Sure you will spend about 20 cents less per gallon getting it but If you can find a gas station that has pure gas, get it. I went form about 19mpg city and 24mpg highway to probably 23mpg city and 28-30 highway. Car also runs a lot better and you get your moneys worth. Also I through Heet
Shit works great to take out any water found in the gas/cleans injectors and keeps your car running good when It gets cold out. It also doesn't have tons of additives, just alcohol to clean it out.
Edit: This is the only thing I'd recommend throwing in your gas tank other than good 100% gas. After all our cars weren't made for ethanol, some people forget that.

well heres the verdict. I got 18 mpg on my last tank which is absolutely horrible considering I usually get from 25-28 mpg mixed driving. I attribute it to two factors, the fuel additive and wind. The last week has been extremely windy (40+ mph at times) and I was doing some driving in it. I filled up again and it seems that my mpg is back to normal so I am happy - case closed for now!
