Sounds like the throttle position sensor. My 2.2 did some strange idle things several times and lit up every service light once. It would kill the motor if I didn't keep the gas on at stops. Ran like crap for the most part to. After a few starts, it would go away until next time.
I recommend replacing it. It's easy to do and good price on rock auto. I was issue free after that. When resourcing my problem on here it was mentioned there was a bulletin or recall, something, that was a common problem requiring the part to be replaced. Some present early, some not for 180k miles and 14 years like mine.
