Not that I have an Alero with the Ecotec, but I'm really starting to miss the one I did have. Yeah I was upset it was a 4 door and automatic, but when I got it I didnt know about the potential of the engine, probably because I was a Ford guy, well v8 Ford guy and thats why I traded the Alero for my Mustang GT. After reading why "Spy" has done with the 2.4L and what others have done with the 3.4L, I really wish I would have kept my Ecotec Alero. The Stang made my payments go up like $75.00 a month, but I got a great deal on it, just the negative equity that screwed me on the Stang. I already had catback exhaust, intake, and header on the Alero, next step was Stage 2 cams from "LevelZero" and the 62mm t/b, which I was hopin to be in the mid 9's in the 1/8 with this setup, but I never got to the track and traded the car before the cams and t/b. I would actually trade the Stang back for an Alero with Ecotec w/5spd, but I have waaaaaayyyyyy too much negative equity now. I'm so bummed and miss the Alero. I know if I would have kept it, I would have more money and the Alero would be about done with the exception of turbo or supercharger, I was still debatin on that. Sorry for the long post pretty much about nothing, but after reading things here lately, I miss the Alero. Peace out homies.

That's why you buy the right car the first time .
I was specifically looking for and 02+ with a 5-speed and found one at a local dealer. I have a love/hate relationship with the car .

Definitely the 5-speed to get is a '02 GL2. That way you can get all the conveniences of power windows and stuff not available on the GX. That is, unless you like the lightweight version =)
Fortunate for the Canadians, they made 5-speed GLs right up to the end as far as i know.

Took the words right out of my mouth. One day I have a little problem installing a light bulb or something stupid like that and I swear and yell at the car The next day I hear the turbo spool and the "pssshhhh" from the blow off valve and I love the damn thing!
But yeah...the Ecotec engine in any car has a lot of potential, auto or 5 speed. That's why I've decided within 2 years I'm going to swap in a fully built and turbo'd Ecotec engine with a 5 speed It'd be nice if I could somehow get an AWD system on there but that'll never happen

Thanks alot guys, I do appreciate the comments. Trust me, I love the Stang alot, and theres tons of aftermarket potential, but you see too damn many of them these days. There are 2 different Mustang Clubs in my town and each one has over 50 Stangs in it. I could be wrong, but I didnt think they started putting the Ecotec in until 03, or was it the end of 02? I think I rather have the GX model, for the lightweight, and it isnt that hard to roll up and down windows and move the seat my a lever instead of a button. The 5spd would be nice to have along with the Ecotec, and my auto was nice, I enjoyed shifting it manually with the mods I had, it felt real strong. If I ever get promoted, than I will be making about $2.00 more an hour and could maybe afford an Alero and keep the Stang. I cant remember what the members name is, he has been here awhile and I dont know if hes still here, but his Alero with Ecotec and 5spd ran a 15.21 I believe with intake and exhaust, they said his car was factory freak, I think he has a black Cobalt SS now, but I cant think of his name.

'02 was the first year for the Ecotec. I test-drove a 5-speed GL2 in '02. Unlike the J-Bodies which switched over mid-year, the N-Bodies had the Ecotec for all of '02.

I know exactly what you mean! I don't own a mustang myself but even the new model I seriously see like a dozen of them each day! They're everywhere.

Those Mustang GTs are sweet, but there are too many of the V6 mustangs running around, looking scary, with too much weight being pulled by that engine. I still wish I could keep the Ho's body, n drop a 3900 in there or something, with a 5-speed. Ah yes....that would be nice.

I'm no expert on the 2.2 ecotec but I know enough that what you said about the cavalier really didn't surprise me

I missed my ecotec alero shortly after I lost it. The V6 camaro was fun, but there was something about racing a 2 Door alero that kicked ass. Everyone was surprised it was stick, and even more surprised how fast it was for just intake and exhaust.
I did however go out and buy a faster ecotec car!
