I opened mine up and stuck something in between the rubber microswitch and the plunger at the end of the button assembly...don't even remember what I used but as long as it doesn't easily fall out, it'll be fine. It makes it so the switch is always on, but why does it need to be off anyway? To turn off the light? Big deal.

There's probably some requirement within the FMVSS rules that state that the system must be able to be shut off completely. Since you can do that on most all cars.

The manual says to turn off the cruise during city driving, so you don't accidently hit the "set" button, and the cruise takes over. I guess they figure you'll just take your foot off the gas to cruise to a stop, but the car won't slow down. Guess they never figured on you just hitting the brakes!!
