Dash Pad Overlay?

I know these questions are annoying, but I did a search for this before I posted this thread.

I found this dash pad overlay on eBay and was wondering if anyone has heard of these. I have seen where you can purchase carpet or suede covers for your dash but everyone knows they do not want a piece of carpet laying on their dash.

This one looks to fit the exact contour of our dashboards and would easily hide the awful rippling and peeling back that haunts some of us.

If it's just an overlay, I wouldn't get it... If you really want to recover your dash, just go to a fabric shop and get the stuff you want, then do it yourself. Ask Eh-Nigma (spelling?) for help.. He's busy redoing his interior.

Yeah, in reguards to that... if it's JUST an overlay - junk. You'll never have the right fit or look with it literally floating ovetop of the original vinyl still there. If you glue it, it's only a matter of time until it peel.

IF it's intended to be the premolded vinyl that we have on, you'll need to strip off the original one - which really, is a messy job, but not too hard. Then, reapply the foam between the material and the plastic (if it's not already there). Once that's done, you'll need to ensure that when it's glued on, the material is evenly spread. So, fitment is key, because if it's stretched without wrapping around, you'll get bubbles and wrinkles as soon as your car starts seeing warm/hot temperatures. The glue needs to be high strength, and high quality that allows for shrinking and stretching of the material over the dash in everyday conditions...

The cost of it, plus shipping, plus supplies... get an upholsterer to do it, or just do it yourself. Though, keep in mind, is your new two tone dash going to have both colours match the rest of the car?

I have the same problem and it happened like 35 days after i bought the car and the dealership bought me a piece of carpet to put over because their POS idea to try to glue it back down didnt work. A$$holes

hey guys thanks for the replies...I have had my dashboard issue for awhile now and i have gotten used to it. I have tried to re-glue it down numerous times, but no luck....I even had my windshield replaced at one point and during the time the old glass was out i had easy access to my dash...but once again the thing just rippled right back and peeled up.

Is it true that I would have to take off the steering wheel and the airbags to fix the entire dash?

Just remember, that if you refinish the dashboard, that the area over the passenger airbag is purposely weakend, so that the airbag can blow through it. If you recover it in vinyl, or anything else, that ISN'T purposely weakend, the airbag may not deploy properly if at all.

in regards to fixing the dash... get a staple gun as well, and not tiny staples. The area where the vynil ends on the forward edge of the dash is covered by the plastic trip piece (with the vent). Pull it tight... glue it down, staple it every 1.5 - 2 inches.

Is it a permanent solution? Moreso than just glue. HOWEVER, if it's too close to the edge, you risk ripping the vinyl over time. If the vinyl isn't evenly stretched, than you'll get bubbles.

As Kilroy was saying about the airbag, an easy way around it is to get vinyl paint that matches the new colour of your dash. Spray it on, and because it's such a small piece, that doesn't move or take abuse, I highly doubt it'll give you any issues.
