Rebuild costs *Update* (56k beware)
I just wanted to know how much it cost 2.4 owners..(3.4 with a rebuilt engine can comment too) to do it cause one performance shop quoted me $2500 with me providing my own pistons and rods and another quoted my $5000 with out pistons and rod removed and reinstalled.. now am i being too cheap or is this highway robbery
I mean in know you got to pay to pay but cmon now where is the middle????

$3500 sounds about right.
I was told with rebuilding the Alero's motor I'd be looking at $2500 to $3000, that was getting a reman bottom end from GM and swapping in a new cam and mani's and such

my rebuild was around $3,500 for labor alone (including machine shop labor as it wasnt all done "in house"). cost me around $850 for them just to pull the motor. im still paying off that credit card 2 years later.

$1500 your provide everything sounds right. But It depends on your area, In St. Louis a full rebuild using preformance parts will cost about $4500.00 that include deleting balance shaft, converting to a 2.3 oil pump and .020 overbore pistons.

Those prices are insane. All of my parts (all gaskets, bearings, timing chain, rods, pistons, rings, bolts) were around $1200 total. Labor is $700-900. If you'd like me to find you where to buy each part, let me know. I guarantee you it will be FAR cheaper than asking a shop to find all the parts for you.
AnderbrA's was also $700 for his LD9 assembly.
Guy I know had his done for $500, but he knew a guy in the shop. What kind of shops are you calling? Provide them the engine overhaul manual as well so they realize how straightforward it is to rebuild this engine, because it's 99% likely this will be their first one.

Also since you're looking for pulling the engine out of the bay, assembling it, and reinstalling it, it's going to be higher, at the most it should be $800 in pulling and putting, but even that seems kinda high since pulling and installing the engine isn't bad either.
Parts: $1200
Assembly: $700-900
Removal and Installation: < $800

It cost me a total of $1700 to put the Delta's motor in.
I did the mani swap and a lot of the work. I had to buy a new driveshaft ($410)
The shop charged me about $800, that was for misc parts and labor, but I did most of the work myself at the shop. It was an extra $350 in parts. Little crap like the PS hoses I broke and the heater core I broke, and 5 intake mani gaskets that I broke 2 and the mech broke 2 and the 5th one, was put in wrong, by both of us

And that has to do with this conversation about the 2.4L Twin Cam how? Pistons don't melt due to horsepower output, they melt from running lean, overheated.
