is it a big deal...
I got my PCM in today at my parents' house, just have to go pick it up. it's tuned for a 180* t-stat, which I have sitting in the backseat of my car, waiting for a warmer day to install it (cause it will be a job for me). I was wondering if it was a big deal to install the PCM if it's tuned for 180*, but my 195* t-stat is still in (for a short time, will probably be replaced this weekend/week, since now it's spring break ). but yeah, I would appreciate anyone who's into tuning to answer this for me quickly... thanks

i know you are excited about your pcm, but you might as well wait until you have the t-stat installed.

Just a question, is it because the PCM is now programmed to run the engine @ 180 degrees for optimal performance? I'm just not real knowledgeable about this subject yet.

I think you need a lower temp t stat, otherwise your engine could experience detonation. Not really sure though, but it does have something to do with the ignition cus the PCM advances your timing.

ok so I found on grandamgt.com that it was fine to put it in (thanks ion for that link, maybe i won't change the t-stat). soooo i put it in, and bam, my gas gauge doesn't work, and then my trac off light comes on and won't go off. then i drove it like 5 miles and realized my odometer wasn't moving either. i really couldn't tell a difference in performance at all either. i PM'd mark on gagt, and he said to make sure the connections are good, but it could be a faulty pcm. BOO!

it should work fine if you put your old one back in. if anything, did you do the relearn process?

does anyone happen to know what wire controls the odometer and gas gauge? everything else is working fine. speedo and tach work fine, my gas gauge jumps like, 2 millimeters but still sits under empty (and the gas light doesn't come on). and the odometer reads 117188. the trip read 189.6 before i reset it to 0, now it says 0. i'm thinking (if it's not the pcm issue) i maybe snagged a wire somewhere? there are tons down there, since that's where my security system wiring is too.

the security relearn? i thought that was only if your car didn't start afterward, which mine started right up. i haven't had a chance to do the case relearn thing though... my car runs fine for now.

You would need to put your factory PCM back in for ION to do anything for you. Unless the new PCM was created with HP Tuners...then it would be ok but if it was created with the DHP program...it locks it down. I found that out when my car was on the dyno.
I would put the old one back in and see how the car reacts. I may have missed it....but where did you get the PCM from?

yeah, mark said the pcm could be bad for some reason. it was really really dirty, and kinda dinged up. but tomorrow i'm gonna take it out, check all the connections, put it back in... and if that doesn't work then i'm gonna put my stock one back in and pray that everything works.
