Service engine light... could be O2 sensor
Hey guys, i just hit 90k a little while ago and lately (under hard acceleration) the motor stumbles. I checked the servce manual for a diagnosis for the hesitation, and the first thing it listed was O2 sensor replacement. And now, the service engine light just came on last night. I tightened the gas cap just to make sure it wasn't a fluke and it seems that it's not. So have any of you guys had this problem and was it solved with a new O2 sensor? Also, I have the V6.

I would say go to Autozone or Advance Auto or one of those parts stores that reads codes for free and see what code it's throwing before jumping to any conclusions.

Either O2 sensor or cam position sensor.
|
spark plugs (misfiring)
must read code |
I wish I had a scanner. If anything, I'll purchase a new O2 sensor and replace the old one and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't, then i'll just have my have my mechanic use his to find the problem. But thanks for the help everyone.

this is new to me though that autozone will do it for you. ill try that.

around $90. |
wait you're in MI, get over here I'll scan it with HPTuners
|
Don't throw money at the problem before you know what it is.
Plus you'll need a scaner to delete the code anyway |

Right. I spent $300+ replacing the oxygen sensors, did a complete tune up with plugs and everything, and then it didn't even fix the problem, it was the catalytic convertor. |
could be MAF too. Buy buddy had his go on his S10 and it pretty much did the same thing. Whatever u do dont let a shop install it, they will charge a ton and its about the easiest thing to install. Also I bought an OBD2 code reader a few months back and it is the best investment I have ever made, seriously consider getting one.

Well, I had autozone scan it and it turns out that there was a misfire in cylinder #2. Now i just changed the plugs and wires less than a year ago so it can't be that. It has to be the coil, maybe corrosion on the contacts. The guy over at Autozone also said that it could be the injector too, but i'm having a hard time seeing how an injector would cause a misfire.

Not enough fuel mixture ;)
Pull out #2 and look at it, see if it's fouled |
If plug #2 is white then it would be a clogged injector meaning lean, if it is fouled as Redog stated then your injector is leaking causing you to run rich, which seems more likely to me as lean normally doesn't misfire like rich will.
