Wow this is totally weird I was about to post about the same thing. My fiancee has a 99 Alero. She also has the abs light and trac light on as well. But thats been on for like a year. She really doesn't have the money to get it fixed so we just let it go. We are hearing a noise that sounds like its coming from the front driver side tire. It kindof sounds like the big mud tires with big treads on an off road vehicle. When we accelerate it gets louder. When we decelerate it changes tone and is still pretty loud but just sounds slower for obvious reasons. When turning left or right the noise seems to change tone once again. I reved the car up in neutral at a dead stop and it sounds normal. The transmission is shifting ok and the power steering is working fine. I also think it might be the wheel bearing or possibly the tire became unbalanced. What do you guys think? What does it typically cost to get a wheel bearing replaced if that is the problem. Thanks

It was the wheel bearing on my car. Got it fixed today. It should fix your abs. Chances are that the bearing damaged your abs which is why it tripped your light because her light is off now.
