here in Texas we have state inspections, and have to get them renewed every year. Now here in Dallas, we have to get the emissions test also. It brings the total cost to us DFW area people to 35.00 every year. But if you live in rural Texas you only pay 15.00 w/o emmissions testing

we used to have emissions checks in ky but thank god they got rid off them. The checks they did were very pointless and a waste of tax payer money and didn't change the pollution levels in our area at all.

michigan doesn't have inspections and sometimes i wish they did because some cars around here shouldn't be allowed on the roads even in a third world country!

Ohio is F'ed up.
They have inspections in counties around the larger Metro areas. Like Cleveland and Cincinnati. I dont think they have them in Columbus (bigger than Cleveland or Cinci). Sure as hell dont have them around here

Pennsylvaina depends on where you live. Around the major cities you have to have the "Enhanced" emissions tests, which on cars 1996 and newer the run has to be runnig and they plug the state CPU into the OBDII port under the dash. If the SES light is on, automatic fail, that's just for emissions.
For safety, the wheels are pulled, all 4, unless the shop knows your car, then they'll just pick 2, lights, wipers, brake lights, t/s, horn, even the license plate light and fog lights. If it's aftermarket lights, even they have to work.
The cost varies from shop to shop, but usually it's around $80 for both inspections.
Out in the sticks, They don't do emissions, or it's a different test, don't know what it really entails. It all depends on what county the car is reg'ed in.
Cars 1975 to 1995, have to run at 15 MPH on a dyno with a probe in the tail pipe for 5 mintues. It measures the CO levels and 7 other fumes that the car emits. The Delta never passed this. I put "Classic" plates on it, which was $97 compared to the regualer $36 for reg fees, but the $97 is one time, it's permantet until the car is in the junkyard. Classic is 15 years and older, Antique is 25 years and older, and the car cannot be driven over 5000 miles in a year. All this makes it emissions exempt.
Any car driven less than 5000 miles a year is also emissions exmept, but only for one year, under 7500 in 2 years, makes the car exempt for 2 years. After that, Emissions testing has to be done.
Emission exmept cars are $33 to pass inspection

I'm not complaining, in fact I like inspection
At least I know what's wrong with the car, right away. I didn't know the brakes were at 2/32's because the rotors did not warp. It's the first time I had brakes get THIS low because they usually warp before they get there

haha speaking of brakes I just had to spend 600 on mine the other week. I knew the one side was bad and that I thought the caliper had just gotten stuck or something and wore the pad down on the inside on the front left tire....a few hours later they came out and told me i needed all new calipers apparently the front ones were seized up.. yay...600 and all i did was replace the parts to stock rotors/pads/calipers...

Well I got the rotors back from the powder coating shop and put them on with the new Bendix pads.
I had NO pad left on one of the old ones I guess I did need new brakes.
My neighbor hung out and watched me do the job, He wanted to learn so he could do the brakes on his 1995 Jeep. I showed him the pin that holds on his rotor and told him I've never done a brake job like that. I've only done the "floating" rotors like on the Alero, and soon the wife's Altima. Same set up, just 14 and 19mm bolts
