As far as I can see, your PCM needs to be adjusted for the change in gear ratio. Also I remember reading that 03+ 4T45E trannies were upgraded with stronger internals for reliablity or something of that matter.

Have you tried changing the fluid and filter on your existing transmission?
Have you tried a fluid conditioner?
Is the transmission fluid pressure adjustable on these things?
How many miles are on this transmission?
I have over 206,500 miles on a vintage 1995 Ford Escort automatic transmission, and that's in Baltimore - Washington DC traffic too.

Have you driven a GAGT to see the difference? I'd start there first to see it it's really worth the trouble.

No offence but this is a Oldsmobile were talking about here on a Oldsmobile alero forum, the alero is nothing like the escort that you make reference to quite frequently on this board, they are compleatly different cars, yea the escort is a fine car, so just because it gets better mileage out of some parts because of its lighter weight doesn't make it a good comparison vehical to a heavy alero. Just my input,

Not really no... Your PCM has your VIN flashed into it as well so, your car wont really like having a PCM with a VIN other than your own. To be honest your better off getting it reflashed anyways because then you can also fine tune your car and quite possibly gain a bit of HP in the process.

How did you get your trans to work, any noticeable difference?

When is it slipping? Mine is slipping from a dead stop if I even slightly accelerate hard. I think it is the front tranny mount that has bit it and may be the cause. At least that is what the tranny guy said.

There really is so little difference between the two that I would just put another 40 in it... just my 2 cnts. I had the 40 in my se and a 45 in the 00. Comparing the tables, there is really not that much difference.

HAHA No, not yet, but I do plan on putting one in later.
With HPTuners, you can change the gear ratio in about 2 seconds. All the drive gears are the same it's just the FDR.
The nice part about the 4T45 tranny is that they are still using it today! It's used in the New Malibu, the G6, and a few other cars. I know it's also in the G6 4 cyl and the Cobalt with a 3.90 FDR. There is also a 3.61 ratio too.
Fuller has a 3.42 in his car and it's a bit much for a stock engine. He has the next cam up from what I'm putting in. His I believe is a custom job though.
For what I'm doing the 3.29 is a perfect fit. The 3.61 which is next, is too much for my taste

^ so if newer cars are still using the same transmissions, could we swap in a brand new/slightly used one? are they backwards compatible?
