I personally feel these N body sedans have the feel and look of 4 door coupes. IDK why, there's just something about them.

Brakes can get expensive, depending on what you use.

I like to use ceramic pads and that holds me back $50, but comes out $35 with rebates at Advance Auto.

The calipers are usually $100 and the rotors are usually $50, but I always end up knocking $20 bucks or so off the price. Just depends what offers AAP has.

tw0123
02-15-2013, 11:34 AM
Im ok for the brakes... have 2 sets of front calipers to use and rear as well :) if anything ill just need new pads ... i love having 3 aleros with upgraded parts i might even toss the impala brakes on the front... hmmm decisions decisions lol

Corvette are too expensive for a winter beater/daily driver... plus the stock 16's wont clear for my snow tires hahaha

Matt i can't wait to see what you have come up with now... I'm sure it will be a killer set up that saves weight and improves braking for the track!!

I already have 17's for the summer for it but the snow tires are on the stock 16 rims... they are brand new so no point in letting them go to waste as i wont be able to sell them for what i paid or for enough to upgrade to 17's with snows...

yeah, I wish I had good enough tires to allow that...how much do you have for snow...out here in hays mine is a huge snow drift again, I already cleaned so I could get to the street once, I went out and got the snow off of it but there is a foot and a half of snow behind it again, and it is still falling

My tires are shot, I think the wire showing gave me some extra traction.

we have probably 5-6" but the forecast says we should expect 7 more inches of snow by tomorrow night. It's been falling since yesterday afternoon.

03glgold
02-21-2013, 09:59 PM
its been falling since yesterday morning here...I am pretty sure we are around 2 ft and gaining a little...I am not sure when the last official measurement was taken but it was 21" and we are supposed to get another 3-4 tonight...I don't like large amounts of snow, and the whole tire thing doesn't sound good but mine did better with nearly bald tires than the tires it has now...they claim to be all season but I am calling bullshit

today i went to Home Depot to buy me some Plasti Dip...
Im gonna black out my stockers, smoke my tails.. (btw my lero is white)
i wanna clear my corners when it stops snowing.. should i paint the bezel??
and thinking of putting HID's in my heads mayb 8000k or 10000k i havent decided yet... whats better 35w or 55w?? should i do slim ballast?
LED's in my tails later... ohh and definitely tint 20% rear and back window, 35% fronts.... and what do u all think?????

Taillight tint spray... normal paint will get you rear ended

MiLo
02-22-2013, 02:27 AM
when i order my HID's there is an option for:
Mounting Brackets: for 35w ballasts
HID Harness: dual in, dual out
Error Eliminator: bow3
Adaptor cables: h1/h7 to 9006

do i need these items????

i was gonna try the plasti dip smoke, like 2 coats

03glgold
02-22-2013, 08:35 AM
if you plastidip your taillights, then no light will get through and you WILL get hit...got to a parts store and get vht nightshades...it is made for tinting your tails...it is like 12 dollars a can but there is enough to do several lights, and 12 dollars to do it in a more proper way and not get rear ended is a lot cheaper than using what you have and having your car smashed

sleepyalero
02-22-2013, 10:06 AM
 plasti dip your lights????!!!!

Yeah umm no.... It's a rubberized coating, NO light will shine through, PERIOD. VHT tail light tint is what you want. NOT plasti dip.............

It's a tire kinda day.

on top of that, the 16s on the '03 have the original Goodyears on them, so they need to be replaced soon. Don't know to go for max Summer traction, or just cheapo light this time

sleepyalero
02-23-2013, 10:14 PM
My winter set of fuzion hri's (16's - all season) are bald and still get great traction in the snow. Ill have to get a quick picture of how low the tread is. But I ran em a couple times last winter, and to Ohio and back home for mms. Since I didn't want my 18s at his shop cause they are my nice wheels. But despite how low they get great traction so I don't feel the need to replace them until they become a problem.

But now, I might have to sell them because with the new bear brakes the 16s won't fit so now I gotta find a set of 17s. Or just not get new tires/rims. And keep the 18s since the car stays in the garage for winter.. But if I HAVE to take the car out in the snow I wouldn't want the 18s out In it.. decisions decisions.

annoying weekend for me

friday
- flattened intake manifold flange
- scraped gasket material off surfaces and cleaned
- found out the laser cut gasket i had my coworker make didn't fit on the car, caused a huge vacuum leak. (used the outdated DXF before I finalized the drawing)

saturday
- hand cut new intake manifold gasket

- scraped old material off, prepped surfaces, again

sunday
- hand cut new throttle body gasket

Well today was interesting.....driving to my sisters house and the battery light comes on....ok....now i'm worried. Keep driving and the radio goes real low....even more worried now....then a couple min later all my gauges turn off....then the car dies right at a busy intersection....luckily i was able to get over to the right AND luckily i was within 3 miles of my mechanic (tow company charges when over 3 miles). So right now she's sitting in the lot waiting to get worked on....which i'm too mad about....any other time i would be pissed but i've been putting off bringing it in for a while now so it's about time i get all these "glitches" fixed. Just hope it's not too much....poor Robin :( Def not taking care of her like i should be

Don't be lazy man. That's one of the easier things to do on this car. Chip off the old clips and glue on the new ones. It only takes about an hour, and that's mostly getting the door panel off and the window out. It's easier to do it when the window is out the door.

The main bypass valve is the hardest thing to engineer w/the intercooler. It will take me all Summer to build one like that. You need it to maintain that instant SC response and cruising economy. http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n491/guiguilandry/IMG_2725_zps48a68e79.jpg

[ion] C2
02-28-2013, 12:28 PM
i used an x-acto knife. i have the CAD data for the intake gasket, i just plotted it full size and weighted it down on top of the material and cut it with the knife.

this material I got from AutoZone, it's probably 2mm thick, not sure.

Changed the spark plugs, IAT sensor and the upstream o2 sensor last night. I attempted to get the downstream as well but it was on there good. After a few hours of PB blasting and letting it sit overnight I finally broke down and took it to my mechanic to change.

I meant to get the fuel filter changed as well but most of my time was absorbed by that sensor.

I follow that motion...I am not sure between my parents and my vehicles if any of them would pass much testing at all, the newer vehicles could pass a lenient version, but they are all running original o2 sensors that are wearing down, the burban with the lowest currently at 132k (already got around 15k since the purchase in october), my alero at 158,6xx, and my dads 02 chevy with 166k, not only that but all have original cats, as for the 97' it is also all original emissions stuff and the fact that it used to get around 20mpg, temporarily threw a oxygen sensor code and since then gets about 12mpg, it has issues, and my truck doesn't have anything past the catalytic converter and all the honeycomb blew out of that

Plus in this case the red coated bulbs have a white light illuminating them=more pinkish color

Went to the shop twice in a month and the second time they find a clamp is shot going to the heater core. I figured it was something small like that because my car wasn't making any bad noises. egr delete (i have it) the egr re filters dirty fumes back into your intake to make it cleaner. it keeps the motor a little cleaner inside but it can add 1 mpg or minus 1-2 mpg if you delete it. i like not having it. plus i dont have a cat either.

swapped my wheels and tires from front to back... apparently one tire has a low spot on it that was causing severe wheel vibration when it was on the front... had the shop check it out, all 4 balanced out even, no unusual belt shifting just a low spot on one tire... they said I probably had it on the back last summer and didn't notice it...

So i will be ordering a kenwood HU within the week. No more screens for me....just getting a regular style one....double din though. This one seems pretty sweet....can run my phone through it.

12" Powerslot slotted Impala rotors. I decided to say screw the rear big upgrade and just get regular GA slotted rotors to match these since upgrading the rears doesn't make THAT much of a difference. Surprising on how heavy these things are.

BTW random thought, if I was you I would of painted the center "hub" on your rotor black or something, that brown/copper color sticks out in an odd way. Knowing your color coordinating ass I'd thought you would of done that.

The rotor hats are anodized aluminum for weight savings. Paint won't hold up very well.
They were originally black, but after several track days with heating/cooling cycles, they changed to more of a purple/brown.
They've been exercised in the way they were intended to; no poseurs here.

Nice work!
Were you able to get the original hood opening angle (or slightly lower)? I ask because greater than that and high wind can be a problem. I want to do that on my other cars as well, what's the part#? It also frees up a little space in the pass. side front of engine compartment.

Thanks. The gas hood supports hold the hood a negligible amount lower than where the prop rod holds it. The hardware is pretty solid - as long as you follow the directions on how to fasten everything, it's not going anywhere.
