hoping to make this an official thread-sticky?

today i let my car get soaking wet and kinda clean, then bought some turtle wax upholstery cleaner and went to work on my Smoke stained seats. I give the turtle wax cleaner two thumbs up, it took alot of the stain out and made my seats smell new.

Also heres a photo

Drove it from point A to point B and back.

Sorry, did not realize this is the alero appearance section.
Well, not today, but last weekend I had it washed and put new pads on it. The old ones were literally bare metal.

valve cover is actually a lot darker, cherry looking red (shitty phone camera) put on new gaskets for all that while it was off, and replaced the black intake box with pipe.

its good to see this thread has taken well. -Ion, keep up the good work, i wish my motor looked that nice inside. :)
papa rad17- i still feel like red is a honda color for "valve cover" paint. but looks good! nice intake, is it autozone spectre pipe? i wondered about the pipe, i didnt think it would have all the holes and hood ups for all of the stupid sensors and crap that are attached to my stock intake hose.

the first pipe right off the throttle body is the cheap autozone pipe. then the rest is actual chrome pipe with the K&N filter. It only has the one hole for the sensor, in the first coupling I drilled a hole then sealed the vacuum hose in there and put a breather on the valve cover where the other one would have been. getting rid of that black box helps a ton.

yesterday, i popped my rear door panel off, and hit the locking mechanism with some WD-40, then vigorously worked the lock rod until it moved some-what freely. and then put the panel back on, and locked the door. Now my driver side rear door is locked and stays locked. :)

My friend had this problem. except his was on his own "private property" and the guy that does all the code enforcing, is a dick head and thought he was cool and basically said if my buddy doesnt get the permit for the "building" which in all reality it was a tent big enough to fit a car in, he will be fined.

funny thing is, the only reason this code enforcer guy messes with my friend, is because- my friend, told the code guy that if he doesnt leave his family alone, hes going to kick his ass. :)

tw0123
01-30-2012, 10:03 PM
ya... i was going to buy one of those pop up car tents but with the high winds around my house i figured i would use some wood for the frame instead of the metal poles... according to the building department, it basically boils down to the fact that i need a permit to use wood, but the metal poles do not require a permit... even the inspector said it was a dumb rule, but it is his job and that he gets paid to follow the rules...

A millionaire can't even buy a new GT if you are referring to brand new considering that the newest version was only produced from 04-06.

maybe in your area a millionaire cant afford a 06 GT.
but here in new york my friend whom is the CEO of a company and i believe he is only a millionaire, purchased a brand new 06 ford GT 40th anniversary edition the orange and blue one, off the lot of a dealer.
and brand new meaning there were no miles on the car when purchased. it is obviously not literally brand new off the line. lol
not that i need to prove myself to anyone but, my alero is in front of his car in this photo.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7063/6831862786_654f66a659_z.jpg

and i may get the "crappy 4.6L" even though it made what nearly 50 hp more then the 5.0L in the fox body and early sn95.

i happen to like the late sn95 body (99-04) main reason is because not many people really have them, and mod them in the area. people either have fox bodys or early sn95 (94-98). i dont like the s197

and to be honest i dont really care what people think about what i drive, or if they think the engine is garbage.

but here in new york my friend whom is the CEO of a company and i believe he is only a millionaire, purchased a brand new 06 ford GT 40th anniversary edition the orange and blue one, off the lot of a dealer.
and brand new meaning there were no miles on the car when purchased. it is obviously not literally brand new off the line. lol
not that i need to prove myself to anyone but, my alero is in front of his car in this photo.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7063/6831862786_654f66a659_z.jpg

and i may get the "crappy 4.6L" even though it made what nearly 50 hp more then the 5.0L in the fox body and early sn95.

i happen to like the late sn95 body (99-04) main reason is because not many people really have them, and mod them in the area. people either have fox bodys or early sn95 (94-98). i dont like the s197

and to be honest i dont really care what people think about what i drive, or if they think the engine is garbage.
When I said not even a millionaire could buy a new ford gt i was referring to a 2012...I was being a smartass...the 99-04 body isn't bad and when I said "crappy 4.6L" I was referring towards the new 5.0... power wise it would be cool to take a 99-04 body and put the new 5.0L in it or if you are going for the whole gt thing put in a 5.4L then you would have the same powerplant...I was in no way implying that you didn't get to hang out with a ford gt however now noticing that it was a gt40 I am quite jealous...Nowhere in the comment was I planning to trash you personally

yeah they do... but i will say i look under a ford and more often then not go "wtf were they thinking". frames that arnt straight, o2 connectors you can possibly reach, crappy cv joints on the drive shaft, stupid 12 point bolts on the drive shafts... THAT FACE THE THRANSFER CASE. and a bunch of little shit like that. i absolutly HATE lifting ford trucks. suck so bad.

I haven't worked on many fords...my f250 is an 89' so they hadn't quite gotten to trying to make everything impossible to work on yet...pulling the motor on my 65' thunderbird wasn't fun though...in order to take the power steering pump off you have to take the a/c compressor off and in order to take the a/c compressor off you have to take off the power steering pump, everything was so screwballed...I also know that on my moms 04' Freestar in order to change the spark plugs without excessive risk of breaking one then you need to pull the intake manifold...On the driveshaft for my dad's 02' Chevy however they have it with one spline smaller than all the others for fitting it together so something that should take like a minute to put back on takes much longer if you don't know about it and mark it first... They also put a frame support on the 02' chevy so that you barely clear it to get to the fill plug and have to go through a hole in it to get to the drain...I think all engineers should have to go work in the field they are designing for before they start writing up plans because then stuff might not be so screwed up all the time

for me chevy is easier to work on because its all simple. However i enjoy a challenge when working on cars. When i had my J-body, i was bored with it in a month. when i had my sn95 mustang i didnt get bored, but i had to get rid or it to get something cheaper on insurance and a little faster then the beat old v6 that was in it.

if i didnt hate camaros i would probably get an older iroc. but a camaro is like a tampon... every kitty needs one (no offence to any member here that has a camaro)

and with that i actually mean that everyone and their mother has a camaro around here and its annoying as all hell when you try to go for a drive in the summer and all you see is camaros everywhere.

anyway this is the "jist" of what i want to persue. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7061/6979491467_e24c36a06a_z.jpg

i looked that up because ive never heard of it. i am impressed. i do like it mainly the hood and front end. it looks more agressive and im sure its a little faster then a stock cobra. either way, i'm not really looking to burn the streets with power. i just want a v8 that is faster then the "ricers" in this area. I am fairly positive that a mustang GT with an intake and cat back exhaust would be faster then any of the imports in town. accept maybe my friends honda civic. i envy him. its a b18b1 from an integra, with a td04 turbo from a subaru wrx complete frankenstien build but its tuned and it beat my 360hp supra back when i had it.

Get a Subaru wrx or an evolution you could beat the ricers in those cars. Also if u supercharged ur alero also look at a 350z or a g35 or g35x. You do not need a v8. To beat ricers.

all of those would be nice, but i am trying to get out of my import Phase.

anyway, today i cut the muffler of my alero in favor of a new one. I wasnt aware the ecotec sounded like a v6 at idle and until around 4k rpm with no muffler. past 4k sounds like a crotch rocket.

i dont have the time to do that to a daily driver. between taking care of mein mädchen and using the car for grocery getting, i wouldnt be able to get under the hood to install even if i put everything together well before hand.

also, full weight ecotec can run a 12 with just a turbo and tune?

i will still be keeping the alero when i venture into the v8 realm. Theres no way id get rid of this car i love it, everything from the style to the economy and more. the few flaws it does have give it character and its well worth keeping it around. ive just been a mustang fan since birth (mostly because my dad is a mustang fanatic) and also because i cant afford a Dodge Viper ACR ;)

Just changed the oil today... Found out that she is losing oil somewhere... It was almost empty, and there was a lot of black gunk on the oil cap and on the end of the drain bolt.... Not sure what's going on, but I will be keeping a sharp eye on the car now... I think it's on its way out soon....

And yes, i make regular oil changes, use 5W30 Penzoil high mileage. I think the car being low on oil might explain the rough idle a bit... It seemed to run pretty smooth after the change.

My windshield wiper arms have been faded grey for some time now and most of the black paint was completely missing. I rattlecanned it with gloss black wal mart spray paint that I reclaimed from my parents garage where I left it 8 years ago.

I also found a can of clear paint...

This led me to spray over my oxidized corner of my hood with clear... It's no longer a perfect color match there since the clear has been baked for so long, but it no longer looks burnt either...SO... then I went crazy and painted clear over every little spot on my car that had paint missing due to scratching. Actually came out okay....Though it was overcast today, so I'm hoping it still looks okay in actual sunlight.

   Ahhhh good times with those bolts....the one on the front right bottom is a BITCH.....gotta use a short bolt and you need some certain type of attachment for your ratchet in order to tighten it because you CAN NOT get a wrench in there....and we had the engine out when we put the headers on....lol....i can't imagine doing it with the engine in. Changed my oil....switched over to synthetic. Also i FINALLY put my rear strut bar on....been putting it off for too long. About to go for a drive so we'll see how well that rear one compliments the front.

I love how the oil filter on the 3500 is at the bottom of the engine....much easier to take off and a lot less messy. I hated how on the 3400 the filter was towards the middle and whenever you took it off the oil would go down the whole side of the engine and then you have to wipe it all off. Still gotta do some wiping with this one but not nearly as much. About 27k on the new engine :)

i did a lifter job today, took about 4 hours, got it all back together and runs great, revved it a little and a damm rocker bolt pulled out, i got kinda lucky and it was the front one so heli coiled that and it runs soo much quieter now,

also found out why it smokes some times, the valve guide seal thing came out of the head, i know there is a way to do valve seals with out pulling the head, ive seen a special tool, just gotta get motivated to do it

Man my car does this, along with mild vibrations at ilde. Once it warms up the car runs fine but still makes the wheel vibrate at idle, but not that hard vibration that makes your teeth chatter. might be paraniod IDK.

CF vinyl on the interior center console today, yea boredom. and since I had leftover plastidip from my rims I put another coat on, then went over all the rubber seals around the windows, the black center pillars and emblems.
